Obituary for John "Jack" White II
John Oliver White II, age 93, of Schenectady, died peacefully at his home on Sunday July 23, 2017. He was a devoted husband to his wife Mary (Cushane) White, and beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Born in Plainfield NJ on January 24, 1924, he was the son of the late John O. White I and Elizabeth (Bakonyi) White. John, better known as Jack, was lovingly raised by his Uncle George and Aunt Maude from the age of 8 after the untimely death of his parents. After high school, Jack entered the US Army and was stationed out of Camp Beale in Northern California, where he proudly served his country until 1946. After the war ended, Jack returned home and met his soon to be wife, Mary Cushane. Jack and Mary wed on August 20, 1950 and enjoyed almost 67 years of marriage. Jack and Mary were blessed with four children, John O. White III (Susan), William (Sally), Kevin (Jeanette), and Mary Ellen White-Remillard. They also have six grandchildren, Rebecca (Tim), John O. White IV (Kathleen), Amy, Brenna, Emma, Connor and two great-grandchildren, Kailyn and Julia.
Following his enlistment in the US Army, Jack worked for 38 years as a Steam Fitter for General Electric in their Research and Development Center. When Jack wasn't with his family or working, he could be found enjoying the outdoors. His passion for hunting and fishing were second only to his love for his family.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Thursday, July 27, 2017, 9 AM at Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Church located at 2216 Rosa Road, Schenectady, NY 12309. Calling hours will be Wednesday at Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union St.,(at McClellan St.),Schenectady, NY from 5 PM to 7 PM.
Interment will follow the Mass at the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Schenectady, NY.
