Marian E. Zemgulis entered eternal life on April 23, 2024

Born in West Easton, PA on May 18, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Steven Poswistilo and Anna Tomko.  Marian graduated from Easton High School, St. Agnes Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia as an RN, and received her BS in Nursing Education from St. Louis University in 1949.

Marian taught Anatomy and Physiology at Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Darby, PA until marrying Stanley Zemgulis in 1953. They had 4 children – Anne, Mark, Stephen and Susan.

Stan was employed by GE. His career took then to Schenectady, NY; East Orange, NJ; Louisville, KY; Allentown, PA; Tyler, TX; and back to Schenectady in 1971.

Marian was an active parishioner at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish in Schenectady (former St. Helen’s) where she served in many roles. Her most cherished ministry was leading or being part of the RCIA team for many years. She was also a graduate of the Diocesan Formation for Ministry Program, now known as the Kateri Institute.

In addition, Marian served as a Eucharistic minister at two of the local hospitals, and volunteered as a Red Cross Nurse on Bloodmobile units.

Marian was an active volunteer at the Dominican Retreat and Conference Center since the early 1970’s and made her commitment as a Dominican Associate in 2000.

She was an artist and a lover of nature – particularly hummingbirds.  She learned to swim at 50, and wanted to learn to play the banjo in her 90s.

Marian is predeceased by her husband, Stan, her parents, and her sister, Ann (Poswistilo) Parker. She is survived by her four children – Anne (Rogerio) Zemgulis, Mark (Jayne) Zemgulis, Stephen (Faye) Zemgulis, and Susan Zemgulis, OP, and her brother Frank Poswistilo.  She is also survived by granddaughter, Tanya Taber Dean, and great grandchildren Rebekkah, Brian Jr., Charlee and Ronnie of Rotterdam, NY as well as step grandchildren and great grandchildren in Brazil; nieces, Margaret, Susan, Marianne and nephews, Stephen, Christopher ,and Richard.
