William A. Howe, III

Niskayuna - William Augustus Howe III, age 59, died at his home on December 29, 2024, after a long illness. Born on February 7, 1965 in Schenectady, New York, he was the son of William Gerow Howe and Irene Williams Howe.

Bill attended public school in Niskayuna, NY and was a National Merit Scholar, and went on to Bucknell University, where he received his degree in civil engineering. Initially employed by CT Male in Massachusetts, Bill went on to serve the New York State Department of Transportation for thirty-one years as a civil engineer, a professional engineer, and the Director of Contracts, retiring in 2019. Bill was a prolific reader, enjoying history and science fiction in particular; an avid music and film fan, Bill attended many concerts & festivals with friends. He loved the outdoors, and would often hike, kayak and spend time at the beach in Cape Cod. Bill’s residence featured extensive gardens, which he enjoyed tending in the warm season. Most importantly, Bill was a kind and generous person, whose calm and positive demeanor elevated those around him.

William is survived by his sister, Rebecca Howe Thomas (Mark) of Niskayuna, his sister, Nancy Gerow Liss (Carl) of Niskayuna, his brother, John Williams Howe of Niskayuna, and his nieces and nephews Gregory Thomas, Jessica McCarthy (Thomas), Irene Thomas, Aidan Liss, and Alexandra Liss. Bill is predeceased by his companion, Heidi Romines, who passed away in 2017.

Calling hours will be held at Jones Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave, Colonie on Friday, January 10 from 10 am to 12 noon. Funeral services will be at 12 noon at the funeral home with Rev. Robert Longobucco officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. The burial will immediately follow at Parkview Cemetery on Fehr Avenue in Schenectady.
